MC SPECIAL first got into the jungle and drum & base scene around 1994, I started to listen to pirate radio stations such as “Kool” and “Rude FM”.

 

As I got older and the years went by the pirate stations grew and grew with the new sound which was then labelled as house and garage music.

 

In 1998 I went to my first garage event at “The Island” in Ilford which was garage nation. From that moment I knew I wanted to be a MC, I then started copying my favourite MC’s lyrics and started to MC at local parties.

 

At the age of 17 I started writing my own lyrics and got a show on a local pirate station called Flava FM, things started to pick up which then led me to performing at: “The Hope”, “5th Avenue” and “Harlequins” in Ilford.

 

In the year 2000 it really took off for me when I met Mark Rider from Strictly Underground Records. We went in the studio and I started laying down bars, he then showed me the instrumental of Joy, I already had the lyric oi oi as I was from Essex! Next thing I knew, I was in the studio writing lyrics to “Joy” and the rest is history as they say.

 

“Joy” made it massive in the garage scene and it wasn’t long before you were hearing it on every pirate station and in every UKG rave across the country.

 

It still holds the record of 31 weeks in the UK garage chart and from the success from Joy I have performed at events such as: Garage Nation, Pure Silk, Sun City, Last Man Standing, Cream of The Crop and many many more big events.

 

I have also performed all over the world including; Dubai, Greece, Russia, Thailand, Holland, Germany and of course all over London and the UK.

 

In 2007 | won the “Music 4 You” award for best live performance, which I was very proud of because it was voted for by the public. I am now currently working on new material with various artists from the garage scene which looks to be on the up again and I can’t wait to be a part of this historical music that I grew up to.
